Operator Licence Awareness Training (OLAT)

Operator Licence Awareness Training (OLAT) is designed to provide a clear understanding of the legal responsibilities attached to holding and managing an Operator Licence.

The course focuses on compliance, regulatory expectations and the practical systems required to operate safely and lawfully within the road transport industry. It is suitable for both Standard and Restricted licence holders and is often recommended where additional compliance knowledge is required.

Who Should Attend

This course is suitable for:

  • Company Directors and business owners named on an Operator Licence
  • Transport Managers and nominated licence holders
  • Restricted licence operators
  • Transport office staff involved in compliance administration
  • Individuals advised by a Traffic Commissioner to complete OLAT

The training supports a stronger understanding of licence undertakings and helps reduce the risk of compliance issues.

Course Content

The course covers the key areas of Operator Licence compliance, including:

  • The Operator Licensing system and legal undertakings
  • Roles and responsibilities of licence holders and Transport Managers
  • Driver licensing requirements
  • Drivers’ hours rules and tachograph compliance
  • Vehicle maintenance systems and record keeping
  • Operator Compliance Risk Score (OCRS)
  • DVSA enforcement powers and Public Inquiries
  • Consequences of non-compliance

Training is delivered using practical examples and real-world scenarios to support understanding and application within day-to-day operations.

Course Format

Classroom Based

The OLAT course is delivered over one full day at our training centre.

The session includes:

  • Tutor-led compliance training
  • Interactive discussion and case examples
  • Guidance on implementing effective compliance systems

Certification

Upon completion, delegates will receive a certificate of attendance.

This certificate may be used as evidence of compliance training and, where required, can be uploaded to the Vehicle Operator Licensing (VOL) system as supporting documentation.
